對他人的瞭解，

It is not always dependable to understand or judge a person

有時親眼所見，親耳所聞也不一定可靠；

By seeing or hearing what he/she does or says with our own eyes or ears.

何況是藉聽聞的間接尺度去衡量一個人！

It is even less dependable to measure that person by the words or comments of other people.

因此，可以肯定地說：

Therefore, we can positively say that

時間才是最好的也是最可靠的試金石！

Time is the best and most dependable touchstone for judging a person.

人生的旅途上，原本就有許多

In the journey of our lives, there are numerous obstacles

必須我們去排除的障礙，

Waiting for us to deal with and remove.

那已經是夠我們忙著去應付得了；

These obstacles have already kept us busy enough to just try to cope with them.

為什麼生於這種忙碌的里程中的人們，

Why do people on such a stressful, difficult journey

還一味地一條鏈子一把鎖的去扣住自己呢？！

Confine themselves further with chains and locks?!

不要把日常生活當做禪，

Do not take one’s daily life as Chan

雖然日常生活中處處有禪的蹤跡。

Even though it is full of signs and hints of Chan.
